A native Californian, Raymond was born in Watts and grew up in Fresno and Sacramento. While he did fine academically, Raymond had a hard time expressing the emotions he felt as an adolescent. Fortunately, he found sports to be an area in which he could excel. Finding his true calling in Track and Field, he ranked top in the State in the triple jump.
Raymond strongly believes that if he had been exposed to a program like Soul Shoppe in his youth, things would have been much different. Life events, including the loss of his eldest daughter, drew Raymond to Soul Shoppe. He knows how it feels to have conflicting thoughts and emotions, and he believes that if he can touch just one child, he can make a life-long difference in their life. |

of positions in community organizations. For 20 years she has worked in school
districts, summer and day camps, non-profits, the YMCA, and various
ecumenical settings. Melanie is extremely skilled at
creating systems and advancing great ideas. She’s one

Melanie has a masters degree in theology and loves
going away on silent retreats to cultivate her faith. She teaches classes
on topics such as the spiritual disciplines, and occasionally delivers
a sermon at her church. She travels every chance she gets,
and in 2005, she returned from a year of wandering solo around the
world. Highlights included swimming with dolphins in New Zealand,
being scrubbed in a Turkish bath in Istanbul, and successfully avoiding
the tsunami in Thailand. |
